⚡️ The Opportunity

Reed AI is a Philadelphia-based public-benefit startup building the first Adaptive Sensory Language Learning platform for neurodivergent learners and their families. We turn real-world language into multi-sensory learning experiences—right in the moment they happen.

As we prepare for launch and build out our emerging NLP roadmap, we’re looking for a design-minded R&D Engineer who loves exploring the unknown, validating ideas quickly, and shaping what’s possible.

This role is hands-on, experimental, and highly creative. You won’t be handed a backlog—you’ll help discover what belongs in it.

💪🏼 What You’ll Do

  • Prototype small, scrappy experiments (TypeScript + NLP libraries/APIs).

  • Evaluate ideas like text-to-speech improvements, semantic embeddings, dialog modeling, and multilingual pipelines.

  • Document what you tried, what worked, what didn’t—and why.

  • Share R&D findings to help guide product and feature direction.

  • Collaborate with engineering to identify which experiments should be productized.

  • Investigate where NLP can uniquely support neurodivergent learners in multi-sensory language experiences.

  • Try weird things. Break things. Learn quickly.

🤹‍♀️ You Will Work on Things Like…

  • Building small prototypes using libraries such as Whisper, Faster-Whisper, Transformers.js, spaCy, or OpenAI APIs.

  • Testing prompt-engineering strategies or embeddings pipelines for in-app semantics.

  • Benchmarking TTS voices for clarity, tone, and support needs in neurodivergent learning.

  • Running multilingual tests to assess feasibility of expansion into new languages.

  • Evaluating open-source contributions and identifying integration opportunities.

  • Designing edge-case tests to ensure NLP behaviors meet accessibility constraints

💅🏼 Qualifications

  • BS in progress (Computer Science, Computational Linguistics, or related).

  • Strong TypeScript experience — GitHub portfolio required.

  • Experience experimenting with AI, NLP libraries and models.

  • Curiosity-driven problem solver who’s comfortable in exploratory environments.

  • Strong documentation and communication skills.
